Tulane Acceptance Rate

College Admissions

Do you want to go to one of the most competitive schools in the state Louisiana? Some place that’s renowned for being one of the top schools in the country? Does going to school in New Orleans sound like a dream come true? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then looking into Tulane University is a smart choice for you. So what do you need to get accepted and what is the Tulane acceptance rate? Keep reading to learn more about this and what you can to improve your chances of being accepted.

What is the Tulane Acceptance Rate?

The Tulane acceptance rate its 30%. While that may not sound as competitive as some universities, there are some heavy hitting intellectuals in that 30%. In the year 2014 alone, Tulane produced a whopping six Fulbright Scholars. It’s also been recognized by The Princeton Review as being the #1 Most Engaged in Community, the #2 Best College City, and the #6 Best Quality of Life for college students. Academically, admitted students have an average:

  •    SAT range of 1380 to 1490
  •    ACT range of 30 to 33
  •    3.49 GPA

Those are some pretty competitive numbers to live up to. But before you think about scratching this school from your list, stick with me for a few minutes while we talk about what you can do to increase your chances of getting into Tulane.

Improve Your Chances of Being Accepted to Tulane

Let’s take the academic information above and use it to plan how you’re going to approach your Tulane application. Colleges are increasingly competitive every year and going in without a plan to application season is a gamble I’m not willing to take on your future. So let’s get started.

Your GPA

Everyone talks about their GPA when applying to college. Some of my students are obsessed with theirs, others don’t even want to acknowledge it. If you’re feeling a love/hate relationship with yours, you’re not alone. But if you’re serious about submitting an application to Tulane, use that 3.49 GPA average as the minimum for yourself. A higher GPA will make you look more impressive to the admissions committee.

Here are a couple of strategies to try if you need to raise your GPA:

Take Advanced Classes: Most schools provide a GPA boost if you take AP and IB classes so check your school’s grading policy to see if they offer this. Even if they don’t, part of being inside the Tulane acceptance rate is proving your academic capabilities. Taking plenty of college-level courses shows the admissions team how well you perform with a rigorous course load.

Hire a Tutor: None of my students are as excited about tutoring as I am. I know there’s a stigma attached to it, but tutoring is a personalized and easy way for you to work with someone to improve your grades. There are multiple benefits to being tutored, including improved classroom performance and confidence. My passion for tutoring led me to recruit and train tutors of my own. I find a lot of students just like you need tutors for math and tutors for English, but they’re also trained in science, history, and Spanish. There is absolutely no reason for your grades to suffer!

The ACT or SAT

Below is a breakdown of the SAT scores and percentiles for you to look over. Then we can talk about how you can use this information during your prep!

Section Average 25th Percentile 75th Percentile
Math 690 640 730
Reading 35 33 37
Writing 35 34 37
Composite 1400 1330 1480

I recommend you aim for a score between the average and the 75th percentile. For the ACT, I recommend your goal be a minimum score be 30.

To achieve top scores like these, you need to practice and study regularly. Cramming for the ACT or the SAT is not going to help you get the scores you need for the Tulane acceptance rate. Be sure to choose whichever test you perform better on. I also recommend you invest in a top-scoring tutor for the ACT or the SAT so you can learn from them and pick up their good habits.
