Why The College Tour System Sucks (VIDEO)

College Admissions

Hi Friend,

Wow! I got even more responses from yesterday. Gotta share some of them…

“Neha, we can barely afford to send our kid to college. How am I supposed to visit each of these schools? Four plane tickets, take time off from work, visit, rent a car, get a hotel, and do this ten times? It is literally impossible.” -Shilpa, mom of 3

“Neha, the visits are literally the same every single time. They show us the dorms, the library, and honestly it sounds like a rehearsed speech by a bubbly college kid that thinks everything is awesome. How am I supposed to get any REAL sense of what this school actually can do for my kid?” - Shivani, mom of 2

So… I would recommend that when you visit, tap at least a student on each campus and ask them the list of the following questions.

Neha’s Top Ten Insider Questions List:

  1. Why did you pick this school?
  2. Which other schools did you want to go to?
  3. What are three words that describe the students here?
  4. How is the culture on campus?
  5. What are your friends like?
  6. What did you do when you applied - your essay?
  7. What were your SAT/ACT scores and GPA?
  8. What are you currently studying?
  9. What do you recommend to a new student coming to this university?
  10. What is one thing you would change about this school?

Yes, I am being totally serious. These are the insider questions you need to know to see if your kid WOULD ACTUALLY FIT IN at that school.

So, let me ask you a question.

Would you actually do that?

Nope. That’s because the system for visiting schools is broken. Over the last 12 years, I have been urging parents to understand the importance of getting a true feel on what you are investing in – your child’s future.

Even Business Insider and Forbes wrote an article to make fun of college tours – because of how bad they are… check it out here…

Let’s put it frankly, the college visits process is not only bad, it barely explains the information you need, and well, it costs a TON to visit.

PS - I am going to tell you how to get the best college visit you have ever seen.. in the comfort of your own home, on your couch, in your pajamas. Consider it the Netflix of College Tours…
