Going to Texas A&M is a dream for many college students. So if you’re one of them and you’re wondering what the acceptance rate is and what Texas A&M ACT score or SAT score you need to be considered for admission then keep reading to learn more!

What is the Texas A&M Acceptance Rate?

The current Texas A&M acceptance rate is 69%, making it relatively competitive for a public institution. While they are still considerably more flexible than some of the more selective schools I talk with you about, their admissions committee still expects you to meet their standards. There are a couple of different ways to officially get into Texas A&M, which is where we see that flexibility the most.

How to Get into Texas A&M

You can be accepted into Texas A&M three different ways. I’m going to break each one down for you along with any necessary qualifications you need to be aware of.

Top 10% Admits

This is probably the easiest way for you to get into Texas A&M. If you submit your application and are in the top 10% of your graduating class, then you’re in! You do have to make sure you satisfy the State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy by either completing Texas’ distinguished high school curriculum. If you’re from out of state, this does not apply to you. But if you attended a private Texas high school then you need to claim exemption through one of these two methods:

1) Give Texas A&M the score for you ACT or SAT. To satisfy this requirement, you must submit to Texas A&M a score of 480 in the Critical Reading and 530 for the Math sections of the SAT. If you took the ACT, then submit to Texas A&M a score of 18 in English, 22 in Reading, 22 in Math, and 23 in Science.

2) Prove your coursework was equal in content and rigor to the Distinguished Program outlined by the State of Texas.

Academic Admits

If you didn’t rank in the top 10% of your graduating class, don’t worry. Texas A&M will still accept you. To qualify for this type of automatic admission, you need to have completed the official required coursework. It looks something like this:

Subject Years Required Special Note
English 4
Math 4 Including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II
Science 4 Two courses must come from Biology I, Chemistry I, or Physics I
Foreign Language 2 Must be the same language. American Sign Language will satisfy this requirement.

In addition to completing this course load, you need to have graduated in the top 25% of your graduating class. You will also need to submit to Texas A&M a score of at least 1360 on the 1600 SAT scale with at least 620 on Math and 660 on Critical Reading. If you’re submitting an old SAT to Texas A&M, your score needs to be at least 1300 with 600 on each, math and critical reading.

Review Admits

If neither of those options sounds like you, that’s okay. It just means you didn’t make in for automatic admission like the first two options. Instead, the admissions committee will go over your application piece by piece to determine your eligibility and make extra sure you submitted all the required documents.

Want to Improve Your Chances of Getting In?

Even though Texas A&M has a very clear automatic admissions process, its acceptance rate is still competitive so I recommend working with your college consultant very closely to figure out any potential weaknesses in your application. If you’re finding your coursework challenging, don’t suffer in silence! Instead, increase your chances for success by working with a tutor so you can keep your GPA intact and maybe even get you into the top 10%! Also be sure to partner with someone who took home a top score in the standardized test you’re going to take so that you’re getting the best test prep possible.

What Other Schools Can You Apply To?

If you're wondering what other colleges you can get into that have similar standards to the Texas A&M score for the standardized tests, I’ve put together a list of schools for you to check out. Make sure you check out each school’s admissions requirements, because they will be different than the ones Texas A&M has in place. Discuss these options with your college consultant so you can figure out if any of these are the right choice for you.
