Ohio State Acceptance Rate

College Admissions

Are you ready to go to school that’s ranked #12 for most sought after graduates? Do you want to go to a school that’s as infamous for its academics as its football team and lush, green campus? If this sounds like your dream come true then Ohio State University might just be the school you’ve been looking for. So what do you need to get accepted and what is the Ohio State acceptance rate? Keep reading to learn more about this and what you can do to improve your chances of being accepted.

What is the Ohio State Acceptance Rate?

The Ohio State acceptance rate is 49.1% and is ranked as the best Ohio public university.

  •    1320 SAT score
  •
  •    28 ACT score
  •
  •    3.73 GPA

If you’re concerned about not making the cut, you’re not alone! But before you think about scratching this school from your list, stick with me for a few minutes while we talk about what you can do to increase your chances of getting into Ohio State.

Improve Your Chances of Being Accepted to Ohio State

By taking the academic information above, we can use it to plan your approach to the Ohio State application process. Colleges are increasingly competitive every year and going in without a plan to application season is a gamble I’m not willing to take on your future. So let’s get started.

Your GPA

Some of my students pretend their GPA doesn’t exist; others can’t stop thinking about it. If you’re feeling a love/hate relationship with your GPA, please know you’re not alone. But if you’re serious about submitting an application to Ohio State, use that 3.73 GPA average as the minimum for yourself. Don’t be afraid to aim higher to really impress the admissions committee.

Here are a couple of strategies to try if you need to raise your GPA:

Take Advanced Classes: Check your school’s grading policy to see if they offer a boost for taking AP and IB classes. Even if they don’t, part of being inside the Ohio State acceptance rate is proving your academic capabilities. Taking plenty of college-level courses shows the admissions team how well you perform with a rigorous course load.

Hire a Tutor: I’m always excited to talk about tutoring with my students, even though they don’t always share my enthusiasm. There are multiple benefits to being tutored, including improved classroom performance and confidence. My passion for tutoring led me to recruit and train tutors of my own. I find a lot of students just like you need tutors for math or tutors for English, but my tutors are also trained in science, history, and Spanish. There is absolutely no reason for your grades to suffer, especially since tutoring is private.

The ACT or SAT

Below you’ll find a breakdown of the SAT scores and percentiles for you to look over. Then we can talk about how you can use this information during your prep!

Section Average 25th Percentile 75th Percentile
Math 620 630 750
Reading 32 29 35
Writing 35 31 35
Composite 1320 1220 1430

I recommend you aim for a score between the average and the 75th percentile. For the ACT, I recommend your goal for a minimum score be 28. But remember, there is nothing wrong with aiming higher.

To achieve the scores you’ll need for Ohio State, you will need to be dedicated to studying consistently. Cramming for the ACT or the SAT is not going to help you get the scores you need for the Ohio State acceptance rate. Be sure to choose whichever test you perform better on. I also recommend you invest in a top-scoring tutor for the ACT or the SAT so you can learn from them and pick up their good habits.
